FreshGrass owns and operates No Depression the leading voice in roots music and one of the only not-for-profit print music magazines in existence. The journal attracts over one million online readers and thousands of print subscribers. We publish the only quarterly journal focused on roots music and culture, and we are planning to expand our publishing business to include books in 2025. No Depression plays a critical role in the roots community by elevating and highlighting artists that would otherwise have difficulty getting attention in today’s algorithmic music world. No Depression, as a result, has helped launch and propel many careers and is considered an indispensable public service and the undisputed authority of roots music. 

No Depression currently offers profiles, album reviews, breaking news, other reporting, and commentary. Moving forward, No Depression will be expanding its editorial voice to move into other expressions of roots arts, roots culture and even fiction writing and poetry. No Depression will reflect the wider variety of arts in our funding program and will speak to the entire roots cultural community beyond music.
